GREETINGS!
On a recent trip to New York I was reminded of how much fun it is to be in the flow. First of all it was a last minute trip so I knew that the airfare would be extremely high. My son Chris suggested I call my friend Maria who was a flight attendant. I told him that the last time I talked to her she was no longer flying and he said, “I think she is—call her.” I decided to go with the flow and call her and sure enough she was working for the airlines and was happy to give me a buddy pass to fly to New York. A buddy pass means stand-by so that meant more lessons in going with the flow.
My daughter Nichole and her boyfriend Paul were kind enough to drive me to LAX for a red-eye flight. When I checked in they told me my flight was over-booked and several people were on stand-by. Magically, I got the last seat. In fact I made all my flights during the busy summer season right before the 4th of July. A kind ticket agent went out of her way to change my stand-by ticket to a flight to the John Wayne Airport when it looked like I wouldn’t get to LAX on my return flight home. I made that flight, which was also over-booked. Nichole and Paul came through for me once again and graciously picked me up in Orange County.
Although I had business in Manhattan I went by way of upstate New York to visit my brother Richard and his partner Dorothy. They were the perfect host and hostess and gave me the grand tour of their beautiful part of the state, from Albany, the capital to Saratoga Springs, the Mecca for healing waters, to Van Hornesville and Cooperstown, the home of the baseball hall of fame.
Richard and I stopped in the quaint little town of Van Hornesville to enjoy our picnic. As he unpacked the car I took Tucker, the dog, for a little walk. I could hear water running so I headed in that direction. There I came upon the picture-perfect setting for our picnic—a grassy patch right next to a waterfall with the sun streaming through the trees. Here was another experience of going with the flow.
My trip to the city was equally magical. We had our business meeting at the Yale Club and got very clear about our direction. Mary, my business associate, and I had a creative adventure through Central Park that reaffirmed our vision. Add to all that a chance meeting in an elevator with a businessman and the synchronicities continued to flow throughout the trip.
I recently listened to Oprah interview Elizabeth Lesser (Omega Institute) on her Soul Series. You can access this series by going to Oprah.com and clicking on the link. After having such a magical week of going with the flow what Elizabeth said really struck a cord with me. She said to follow your river of energy and put your soul in charge of your life. This is a statement that resonates with me and the more I live it, the more I know it to be true.
The only part of my trip that was not in the flow was missing a night of sleep on my red-eye flight to New York. This experience reminded me of how important a good night’s sleep is to our health and well-being. This issue is dedicated to that one-third of our lives we spend sleeping. There are millions of people in this country who have insomnia and could benefit from the wisdom of our sleep expert, Constantine Darling.
In addition, our Medical Director Glenn Wollman, M.D., has a CD entitled Sleep Suite that is a unique blend of Western and Eastern science, music and philosophy. The listener will gradually descend from a state of aware consciousness through deepening stages of sleep, with slowing brain wave patterns eventually flowing into REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. If you are interested in purchasing this CD you may go to www.livingsuite.net and mention Satori when you order.
Live in harmony,
